Developing a Regional Circular Economy - A Letter to Secretary for the Environment

Mr Edward Yau
Secretary for the Environment

Dear Edward,

Subsequent to the Chamber's submission on the Policy Address last year urging the Government to look into the development of a circular economy for Hong Kong and the region, we have commissioned a consultancy study on the subject matter. I have the pleasure to attach a copy of the study report for your reference.

We believe that the study report is most timely in the wake of the signing of the framework agreement on Hong Kong-Guangdong co-operation, which, among other initiatives, mentions that the two sides shall cooperate on developing a circular economy. Our study concludes that Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta could complement each other in the efforts of creating a closed loop for a regional circular economy, in particular in the reuse and recycling of electronic products and waste.

The study serves to stimulate wider and more in-depth discussions. Thus, apart from sharing it with the Government, the Chamber will also discuss the findings with various stakeholders such as the Council for Sustainable Development, other business organizations, and Mainland environmental affairs officials. We sincerely hope that we could count on your support in the forthcoming discussions.

I look forward to receiving your feedback on the report. Thank you very much.

With best regards,

Alex Fong
