16 April 2002Mr Eddy ChanCommissioner for Television and Entertainment LicensingTelevision and Entertainment Licensing Authority39/F, Revenue Tower5 Gloucester RoadWanchaiHong Kong Dear Mr ChanLanguage Requirement for Domestic Free Television Programme ServiceI am responding on behalf of our Chairman, Mr Christopher Cheng. The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce feels very strongly that English language programming on the two terrestrial TV stations must continue. Hong Kong's economic future depends on maintaining our international character. The key part of that effort is improving English language proficiency for as many people in Hong Kong as possible. Therefore, the masses must have access to English language programming on TV, which has historically been proven to be one of the best ways to learn English. Some minority language programming would be fine, but English programming should be predominant.Regards, Eden WoonDirector
