Transport emissions make a significant contribution to Hong Kong’s total carbon emissions, representing around 20% of the total. Given the goal to achieve carbon neutrality before 2050, it is important for the Government and private sectors to work together to promote the adoption of green transport options, such as electric vehicles.
JC Motor, established in 2011, is an automobile company based in Hong Kong that initially focused on trading new and pre-owned cars imported from Europe and Japan. After years of expansion, the company is now the exclusive distributor of EVs (passenger vehicles) from the Chinese company BYD.
“We are dedicated to helping fight against global climate change by promoting the use of electric cars, and making transport emission-free in Hong Kong,” said Raymond Cheung, CEO of JC Motor.
However, being a pioneer is not an easy task. “In Hong Kong, the number of newly registered EVs has risen in recent years, but the number of EV charging stations is currently insufficient to support the rapid growth, partly due to the lack of space for the installation of those facilities,” Cheung explained. “Another challenge is the difficulty in hiring appropriate staff for various departments, as well as to manage and maintain the EV charging infrastructure.”
Despite the obstacles, Cheung believes that with the collaboration of the Government and private sectors in supporting the development of the EV market, we can ultimately achieve a sustainable and green future for Hong Kong.
“This is one of the reasons why we joined HKGCC,” said Cheung. “Being the voice of business, the Chamber provides a platform for us to engage in dialogue with Government officials. In addition, we would like to promote our sustainable practices to different sectors through HKGCC’s diverse membership database.”
Looking ahead, JC Motor will continue to focus on customer satisfaction. “Building a strong reputation and fostering customer loyalty requires excellent customer care. Our business can then benefit from positive word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients to attract new clients and grow,” said Cheung.
Cheung added that the company will be expanding from one showroom to five this year, including two 4S stores, which will reach a wider customer base and provide better access to BYD EV products and services.
