Company Background
The longest-established bank in Hong Kong, Standard Chartered has its roots in the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China (founded 1853). In the late 60s, Chartered Bank Ltd. merged with Standard Bank Ltd. to form the present company. The first branch in Hong Kong was opened in1859, and in 1862 it began issuing banknotes, a function it retains today. It was a founding member of the Chamber and still has its original Membership Certificate, no. 000001.

With a wide-spread international network and an emphasis on Asia, Africa, the Middle East and, increasingly, Latin America, the Bank specialises in consumer, corporate and institutional banking, trade services, custodial services and treasury activities.
