Jacob Kam Elected Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce

For Immediate Release

Jacob Kam has been elected Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) for the coming year, taking over from Agnes Chan who retired from the chairmanship after serving for two one-year terms.

Kam, who is the Chairman of MTR Corporation Ltd and was the Vice Chairman of HKGCC, said he was honoured to have been elected and pledged to work together with members, the business community and the Government to boost Hong Kong’s business environment and global competitiveness.

Speaking to the media, Kam expressed strong confidence in the city’s economic development, noting the local business community for its remarkable resilience and adaptability amidst recent global economic challenges. He highlighted that Hong Kong is currently at a clear, positive turning point, with market outlook rebounding as the global macroeconomy and major-power geopolitics show signs of stabilisation. Emphasizing that the city’s foundation as an international financial, shipping, and trade centre remains robust, he noted that the accelerating integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, coupled with the vast potential unlocked by emerging markets along the Belt and Road—such as Central Asia, the Middle East and South East Asia—will generate unprecedented growth opportunities for Hong Kong.

Outgoing Chairman Agnes Chan thanked members for their trust and support over her two-year term. Reflecting on her tenure, she highlighted the Chamber’s progress in fostering international exchange and developing strategic roadmaps that enable businesses to navigate new global markets with confidence. She also underscored her focus on helping enterprises align with national strategies and equipping them to unlock the vast potential of the Mainland Chinese market.

The election was held at the inaugural meeting of the new General Committee immediately after the HKGCC’s Annual General Meeting on the evening of 3 June.

Peter Lam, Chairman, Lai Sun Garment (International) Ltd, was re-elected as Deputy Chairman.

Victor Li, Chairman, CK Hutchison Holdings Ltd; Douglas Woo, Chairman and Managing Director, Wheelock and Co Ltd; Pang Chun Yu, Director and General Manager, Yue Hwa Chinese Products Emporium Ltd and Nikki Ng, Non-Executive Director, Sino Land Company Limited were re-elected as Vice Chairmen. Joseph Law, Managing Director - CLP Power Hong Kong, CLP Holdings Ltd, was newly elected as Vice Chairman.

At the Annual General Meeting, members elected a total of six members to fill the seats on the General Committee – the governing body of the Chamber – who were required to step down this year. All of them were re-elected.
