For Immediate Release
The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) welcomes today’s (2 July) announcement by the Transport and Logistics Bureau that beginning in November, motorists from Guangdong will be able to apply for a single-entry permit to drive to Hong Kong under the Southbound Travel for Guangdong Vehicles scheme.
This initiative will enhance connectivity between Hong Kong and other Greater Bay Area cities, creating new opportunities for businesses.
Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan said: “By providing visitors with convenient and flexible travel options to Hong Kong, this scheme is expected to inject new vitality into sectors such as food and beverage, retail, tourism, and services -- ultimately benefiting the broader economy.”
Vehicles would be allowed to enter Hong Kong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB), under a daily quota of 100 applications. With the full implementation expected by the end of this year, Guangdong-registered vehicles will also be able to park at the Hong Kong International Airport, allowing visitors to enter the city or transfer flights. This will further strengthen Hong Kong’s role as a leading international aviation hub.
Chan added that Hong Kong businesses should seize this opportunity by offering ancillary services and tailored promotions for self-driving visitors.
