For Immediate Release
The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) welcomes recommendations by Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, to speed up work on Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis megaproject by removing barriers.
The Northern Metropolis initiative presents an unprecedented opportunity for Hong Kong to realise its strategic advantages. With the national security law in place -- an essential element in ensuring the HKSAR’s stability and growth -- the ambitious initiative will support the strategic and sustainable growth of our economy and industries, enhance competitiveness, and foster deeper integration with the Greater Bay Area.
Removing various barriers and streamlining processes -- not least the complicated, time consuming and costly approval process for infrastructure projects – will speed up the development and reduce costs.
“With Hong Kong’s economy undergoing a significant transformation, we should take advantage of this opportunity, backed by the safe and stable business environment brought by the national security law, to expedite the Northern Metropolis initiative and economic development,” said HKGCC Chairman Agnes Chan.
