For Immediate Release
The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) welcomes the Central Government’s announcement today (November 29) on the resumption and expansion of multiple-entry permits for Shenzhen residents travelling to Hong Kong, effective 1 December. The new measure will facilitate personnel exchanges while strengthening business and tourism links between the two places.
According to the State Council’s decision, residents with registered residence in Shenzhen can apply for a multiple-entry permit to travel to Hong Kong. Additionally, the multiple-entry Individual Visit Endorsement will be extended to non-permanent residents of Shenzhen holding a residence permit.
Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan said: “Amid a sluggish economic recovery and Hong Kong residents venturing north for consumption, the return of the multiple-entry permit will make it more convenient for Shenzhen residents to visit the city. This will inject fresh momentum into sectors such as tourism, food and beverage, and retail while boosting market confidence.”
As a major cooperation platform among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao under the National 14th Five-Year Plan, the Hetao Cooperation Zone is poised to stimulate economic growth and create new opportunities for businesses in both Hong Kong and Shenzhen by enabling cross-boundary cooperation and collaboration.
Since the beginning of the year, the Central Government has introduced several measures to benefit the city, such as expanding the individual visit scheme to more Mainland cities and increasing the duty-free shopping allowance for Mainland visitors.
As individual Mainland visitors are a key growth driver for Hong Kong’s tourism, their influx will inject new impetus into the economy. The Chamber will continue to actively promote Hong Kong to attract more visitors from both the Mainland and overseas, reinforcing the city’s appeal as a premier tourist destination.
