The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) is pleased to announce that Chamber member Wing Li Holdings Limited who received a Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) certificate of origin (CO) at the Chamber has successfully exported the first historic batch of made-in-Hong-Kong goods with zero tariff to the mainland via Huanggang checkpoint today.
“We issued a CEPA CO to our member earlier this week and we are extremely delighted to see everything has gone smoothly. This marks the first historic zero tariff shipment under CEPA,” said HKGCC CEO Dr Eden Woon.
“We sincerely thank the support from related government departments and mainland China border officials to our member. As a result, our member is able to enjoy the benefits of the made-in-Hong-Kong tag under CEPA quickly,” Dr Woon added.
Wing Li Holdings Limited, a member of HKGCC since 1989, was issued a CEPA CO from the Chamber to export HK$235,212 worth of CD Recordable, with a saving of about HK$12,000 from import tariff which is now exempt.
The HKGCC first proposed in 2000 the concept of a free-trade agreement, later called CEPA, between the mainland and Hong Kong.
The Central and the HKSAR government signed in September 2003 the six annexes to the CEPA and filled in many of the details the HKGCC had been asking for since the main text was signed in late June 2003.
“The Chamber has been playing a key role in getting CEPA to the current stage since some four years ago. We sincerely hope more companies would follow suit to take advantage of CEPA,” said Dr Woon.
