HKCSI – Executive Committee Meeting: 《Driving Change: Climate Disclosure of Hong Kong Listed Companies in Key Sectors and the Road Ahead》
Angus Choi, Partner, ESG Advisory, KPMG China, and Dennis Ngai, Senior Vice President, Sustainable Finance, Institutional Banking Group, DBS Hong Kong, presented the findings of the joint study, “Driving Change: Climate Disclosure of Hong Kong Listed Companies in Key Sectors and the Road Ahead”, at a committee meeting on 17 July.
While HKEX has started the implementation of the new climate-related disclosure requirements in January 2025, they noted that more than half of analysed companies remain silent on Scope 3 emissions, and many lack science-based targets or aligned with international target-setting standards.
With regulatory demands and market expectations around climate-related disclosures evolving rapidly, they emphasised the urgent need for companies to prioritise the measurement and reporting of Scope 3 emissions. This will enhance accountability and drive meaningful sustainability efforts. Companies should adopt a comprehensive approach by establishing clear and measurable targets that includes all material emissions scopes, ensuring real progress towards a sustainable future.
