The Asia and Africa Committee held its committee meeting on 11 June. Mr Hoang T. Duong, Partner of Head of Integrated International Tax and Chief Representative of KPMG in Danang, presented members an update on Vietnam-EU trade pact and recent developments with China. He told members that the EU-Vietnam FTA (“EVFTA”) would give Vietnam an edge in trading over other ASEAN countries. The strong commitment to open markets in EVFTA is expected to boost Vietnam-EU trade relations, helping to further increase Vietnam's exports turnover and contribute around 4.5% to the country’s GDP.

Following the presentations, the committee conducted its election. Members elected Lt Col Nigel Collett to be the new Chairman, while Mr Jonathan Lamport, Ms Natalia Sukhanova, and Mr Andrew Wells were elected Vice Chairmen. The outgoing Chairman Mr Behzad Mirzaei congratulated the incoming Chairman and Vice Chairmen, and thanked members for their support during his tenure.
