Chief Representative of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Representative Office in Hong Kong, Li Peng visited the Chamber

Li Peng, Chief Representative of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Representative Office in Hong Kong, visited the Chamber on 25 March. Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan received the delegation.

Li emphasized the Council's extensive experience in intellectual property rights and commitment to helping enterprises with protection and dispute resolution. He introduced the Council's comprehensive database services, which provide enterprises with data analysis on market trends, regulatory developments and potential business opportunities, helping businesses make informed decisions and strategies. Li expressed interest in collaborating with the Chamber to strengthen intellectual property protection and provide its members access to the Council’s databases, supporting growth and exchange in both regions.

Li also highlighted the significance of the 3rd China International Supply Chain Expo, one of the primary purposes of his visit. He said the Council hopes to raise awareness among Hong Kong enterprises and encourage their participation in this important event. He invited Chamber members to attend the expo in Beijing, which acts as a platform for expanding international supply chain networks.

Li commended the significant representation of foreign and local enterprises within the Chamber and highlighted its long-standing close cooperation with the Council. He emphasized the Council’s neutral role in assisting foreign businesses operating in China, helping address their concerns and advocating for their needs. He also assured support for the Chamber’s development and collaboration, particularly in trade exhibitions, legal services for listings, APEC affairs and the application of smart databases.

Standing Committee Member of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Director of the United Front Work Department, Wang Qiang visited the Chamber

Wang Qiang, Standing Committee Member of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Director of the United Front Work Department, visited the Chamber on 18 March.

During a meeting with Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan, Wang emphasized Shenzhen's robust industrial performance, noting that its industrial output reached RMB 5.4 trillion, accompanied by a 9.7% increase in industrial added value. He emphasized Hong Kong's role as a key financial hub that supports Shenzhen’s international expansion. Shenzhen has 2.4 million private enterprises, which contribute 56.7% of the city's GDP. Wang stated that Hong Kong served as a “teacher” for Shenzhen, assisting local companies in their international expansion. He also advocated for increased collaboration between the two cities.

Standing Committee Member of Jiaxing Municipal Party Committee and Director of the United Front Work Department of Zhejiang Province, Li Xiaoping visited the Chamber

Li Xiaoping, Standing Committee Member of Jiaxing Municipal Party Committee and Director of the United Front Work Department of Zhejiang Province, called on the Chamber on 18 March. He was welcomed by Felix Lee, Chairman of the China Committee.

Li highlighted Jiaxing’s key industries, including petrochemicals, photovoltaic technology, EVs and food production. He emphasized Zhejiang’s importance in national development strategies, such as the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the Belt and Road Initiative and Yangtze River Delta Integration, all of which involve the province.

Li said Jiaxing was home to 91 listed companies, ranking third in the province, with a significant number of Hong Kong-owned businesses. Commending Hong Kong for its strong position as an international financial centre, he expressed interest in enhancing cooperation, particularly in helping local companies with listings and expanding their financial capabilities.

Deputy Director of the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Commerce, Lu Xiangyu visited the Chamber

Lu Xiangyu, Deputy Director of the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Commerce, visited the Chamber on 17 March.

In a meeting with General Committee member Edmond Yue, Lu highlighted Heilongjiang’s strong economic foundation, noting that Hong Kong is Heilongjiang’s largest trading partner. He highlighted the province’s abundant resources, with Heilongjiang leading the country in grain production for 15 consecutive years. The province also boasts 27 national first-class ports, including 19 border ports, providing a multi-layered platform for international cooperation.

He noted the complementary strengths between Hong Kong and Heilongjiang, particularly in leveraging Heilongjiang’s strategic location to facilitate entry into the Russian and Northeast Asian markets. He also pointed to the 9th Asian Winter Games. With an RMB 20-30 billion budget, the Games demonstrated the province’s ability to manage large-scale international projects efficiently.

Lu also expressed hope for stronger economic ties between Hong Kong and Heilongjiang, fostering deeper collaborations in trade, investment and beyond.

International Woman's Day Celebration Dinner

Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan attended the International Women’s Day Celebration Dinner hosted by the Hong Kong Federation of Women on 25 February. She was joined by representatives from the Women Executives Club (WEC), including WEC Chairman Michelle Cheng.

The banquet, which brought together over 1,000 leaders and executives, celebrated women’s achievements and contributions to society. It also provided an excellent opportunity for networking and meaningful discussions, inspiring attendees to continue striving for positive change in support of women’s career growth and success.
