Guangdong announces new minimum wage levels

The Guangdong Provincial Government announced on 18 January adjustments of the minimum wage levels implemented in Guangdong Province (Notice 15 of Guangdong Government〔2011〕. The new minimum wage levels, to be effective on 1 March 201, will cover full time workers (minimum monthly payment) and part-time workers (minimum hourly payment). For minimum wage levels for workers in Shenzhen, please refer to the Regulation of Employee Wage Payment.

Remarks:

1. The minimum wage levels in Guangdong Province will be increased by an average of 18.6%.

2.  The Notice requires all municipalities to apply the new wage level accordingly. If the economic situation allows, individual city/town have the liberty to further upward adjust the wage levels.

3. All municipal governments should publicize the new wage levels within 15 days of the issue of the Notice.

 It would be the second increase in 10 months. Guangzhou will top the wage increases on the mainland with an 18.2 per cent increase to 1,300 yuan a month, the country's highest. Dongguan, the epicentre of Hong Kong-owned factories, will require workers to be paid at least 1,100 yuan a month - up 180 yuan or a 19.6 per cent increase.
