In light of the evolving global economic landscape, our Chamber is looking to significantly bolster its research and policy advocacy capabilities. We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Economist to join our Business Policy & Research team. This role is designed for a strategic thinker who can translate complex economic trends into actionable insights and provide high-level expertise to support Hong Kong’s business community.
Key Responsibilities: • Strategic Research: Drive and initiate high-impact research projects/studies focused on Hong Kong’s economic and trade environment, as well as its international impact and connectivity. • Policy Advocacy: Drive the Chamber’s official stance by authoring major submissions to the Government, including recommendations for the annual Policy Address and Budget, and submissions to various Government’s consultation exercises. • Public Voice & Representation: Serve as a designated expert spokesperson for the Chamber, engaging in media interviews, seminars, summits, and international missions; provide thought-provoking articles for Chamber’s publications and prepare speeches/presentation materials for various public speaking occasions for Chamber leadership. • Project Oversight: Manage the delivery of high-relevance research initiatives and oversee external consultancies to ensure alignment with the Chamber’s business strategy.

• Education: Relevant university degree in Economics or a related discipline. • Experience: A minimum of 15 years of total working experience, with at least 10 years of proven track record in economic research. • Team Leadership: Demonstrated experience in leading and inspiring a team of researchers or professionals is a must. • Expertise: Strong knowledge of international trade, the Chinese Mainland, and Hong Kong’s business environment (SME knowledge is an advantage). • Communication: Exceptional writing skills and fluency in English, Cantonese, and Putonghua. • Technical Skills: Knowledge of econometric modelling and statistical software (e.g., SPSS) is an added advantage.
