Changes to Hong Kong's Foreign-Source Income Exemption Regime - Assessing the Impact and Adapting to the New Normal

Taxpayers will have to adapt to the refined FSIE regime, a legislative amendment proposed by the Government on the treatment of offshore passive income, which will be chargeable to profits tax if certain conditions are not met. To help members understand and prepare for such a change, Sarah Chan and Kwan Yu, Tax Partners at Deloitte China, shared their insights on how to anticipate and navigate challenges arising from such legislative reforms at a seminar on 21 September.

Tax Opportunities and Challenges in the Greater Bay Area – How to Get Well-Prepared?

Tax changes are among the policy measures recently announced by the Central Government to enable Hong Kong residents to more easily live and work across the Greater Bay Area (GBA). At a roundtable luncheon on 17 April, Sarah Chan and Ellen Tong from Deloitte China introduced the latest GBA tax measures, and also discussed some of the key elements of the Mainland’s new Individual Income Tax Law. The speakers also shed light on some of the tax policies and incentives for corporates, including new regulations on withholding income tax for overseas investors in the Mainland, R&D-related tax incentives, and the reduction in the value-added tax rate.
