Founded in 1861, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) is the oldest business organisation in Hong Kong. Our mission is to promote, represent and safeguard the interests of the Hong Kong business community.
"Chamber policy positions may not always be popular, but they have two distinct characteristics: they are well thought out and articulated, and they reflect what you, our members, tell us is good for business and for Hong Kong."
We are international in character, with our membership comprising of multinational companies, Mainland Chinese companies, and Hong Kong companies. We are a self-funded, non-profit making organisation, and as such, we are a truly independent body representing the diverse interests of the entire business community in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).
Our loyalties lie with our members, acting as their voice in advising the SAR Government on matters affecting businesses and the economy, providing members with business information and opportunities, and facilitating networking through a variety of Chamber activities.
We take a strong role in promoting Hong Kong as an international business centre in the heart of Asia. The Chamber acts as an international bridge, connecting Hong Kong business with Mainland China and the rest of the world.
As the voice of business in Hong Kong, advocacy is one of the core functions and strengths of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
Every year the Chamber formulates positions on issues relevant to the business sector through discussions with its various committees, as well as at events. It also communicates regularly with government officials and policy makers to press home our views. These can take the form of public campaigns, or position statements delivered to government.
In addition, our members have the opportunity to represent their organisations in 20 special interest committees that discuss concerns of the business community.
The Chamber provides a wide range of business documentation, training, information, room rental and event services at member rates.
The Chamber maintains 7 offices around Hong Kong offering quality and prompt services with substantial discounts to members on the issuance of all kinds of certificate of origin documents. In cooperation with Tradelink, the Chamber has extended its certification service to cover electronic lodgement of certificate of Hong Kong origin, restrained textile licences, import and export trade declarations and production notifications. The Chamber is the only official authority in Hong Kong to issue the internationally recognised ATA Carnets which are offered at half-price to Chamber members.
The Chamber organises hundreds of networking functions, seminars, business matching meetings and missions every year to help members connect with businesses locally and internationally. The Chamber also arranges luncheons with the Chief Executive and the Financial Secretary every year after they announce the Policy Address and Budget, where members can discuss face to face with decision makers on government policies.
The Chamber's programmes keep members abreast of developments taking place in Hong Kong, Mainland China and the world.
Membership forms the heart of the HKGCC. It is important to maintain quality member services while developing our wider membership base on which business wisdom can be shared and ideas exchanged.
Business wisdom is shared through the Chamber's communication platforms which include our monthly magazine "The Bulletin" Website, weekly members communication and other media. The Chamber has also formed partnerships with member companies to offer members discounts and special privileges, which range from discounts for travel, transportation and lodging, food and beverages, retail stores, professional services, health and beauty, to automobile services and office needs.
