The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) delivered 1,000 food and care packages to the Society for Community Organization (SoCO) today for distribution to less-fortunate families and individuals in our community. Each food and care package, worth around HK$600, contained a variety of household necessities such as rice, supermarket coupons, facemasks, rapid antigen test kits, hand sanitisers, as well as mooncakes to help families celebrate the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.
HKGCC Chairman Betty Yuen, CEO George Leung, Women Executives Club (WEC) Chairman Nikki Ng and Chamber members volunteered to pack the items, which were bought and donated by HKGCC members.
Today’s event, initiated by WEC, was the seventh time such donations have been distributed to various charities and NGOs including Food Angel, The Hub Hong Kong, Mother’s Choice and Zubin Foundation in Hong Kong. A total of 4,800 care packages worth more than HK$3.6 million have been distributed since September 2020. Donated items included household necessities ranging from rice, biscuits, cooking oil, shampoo, anti-pandemic packs, as well as specific items depending on recipients’ needs, such as Halal food, stationery, diapers and clothing.
HKGCC places great importance on CSR projects and helping various NGOs in Hong Kong serve their beneficiaries. The Chamber is delighted to work hand in hand with SoCO for the second time in two years and would like to express its sincere gratitude to all Chamber members who have supported these community programmes and NGO partners to make this sharing possible.
