For Immediate Release
The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce deeply regrets that large numbers of people are “occupying” major roads in Central, Admiralty, Causeway Bay and Mong Kok to express their desire for universal suffrage. We also regret that there have been reports of injuries. The Chamber urges protesters to remain calm and peaceful, and refrain from disturbing social order and security, and cherish Hong Kong’s hard earned prosperity and stability.
Mr. Y. K. Pang, Chairman of Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, said he understands that Hong Kong citizens have the determination to fight for universal suffrage. But he hopes that everyone can express their demands in a rational and peaceful manner. He urges members of the public not to block roads to bring traffic to a standstill, which affects the livelihoods of people in the nearby areas and disrupts businesses. The protests are also hampering office workers from getting to work, which is adversely affecting businesses’ operations.
Pang urges people from all sectors to engage in rational communication, instead of impacting social order and safety.
