HKGCC Free Ride Day: This One’s On Us!

For Immediate Release

In celebration of the 153rd anniversary of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) on May 29, HKGCC will again organize ‘Free Ride Day,’ which will allow members of the public to ride on trams and two Star Ferry routes free of charge. This is the fourth year that HKGCC has organized ‘Free Ride Day.’ New elements have been included this year to bring the whole community and members closer together by conveying the message: ‘Building a Prosperous Hong Kong with All Members of Society.’

HKGCC CEO Shirley Yuensaid:“To add more vivid elementsto this year’s Free Ride Day, we will have a joint-ad with our members’ company names and logos printed on individual t-shirts on the trams’ panels, rather than having a single advertisement like last year. This colourful design symbolizes that Hong Kong’s success stems from all trades and industries, and that our members have worked hand in hand to contribute towards building a stable and prosperous Hong Kong.

To encourage the public to join in the fun, passengers riding on trams can turn their heads and look out the windows so it looks like they are “wearing” the t-shirts, and have their friends or family take a fun photo. We hope people will share these photos by posting them on Facebook and Instagram!” Yuen added.

HKGCC will also set up a photo booth at Central Pier Link Building Plaza on May 29. Passengers who wish the Chamber happy birthday can take a photo at the photo booth with Victoria Harbour as the background and immediately receive their specially printed photo freeof charge. Passengers will be able to download the soft copy of their photo for them to keep by liking HKGCC’s Facebook page.

Yuen, together with the 53 members who sponsored the event, and three media partners, lit 56 candles in the shape of “5.29” during a press conference todayto signify the support of the 56 participating companies. It also symbolizedhow the business sector has worked together to contribute to the success of Hong Kong.

HKGCC’s Free Ride Day showsthe business sector caresabout the community. Everyone in Hong Kong will be able to ride for free on any tram between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, as well as Star Ferry routes between Tsimshatsui and Wanchai/Central, on May 29.

To alert the community about this special occasion, ten trams will carry advertisements publicizing this year’s Free Ride Day starting on May 15. The advertisements will also spread the message that the business community cares about building a prosperous Hong Kong with all members of society. HKGCC, as the voice of business, and its members have long contributed towardsHong Kong’s economic prosperity.

Yuen expressed hergratitude to members’ strong support for the event, in particular media partners HKC Enterprises, Metro Broadcast Corporation Limited and the Sing Tao Group, including Sing Tao Daily, Headline Daily and The Standard, for their assistance in publicizing the event.
