David Eldon Elected as new Chairman of HK General Chamber of Commerce

David Eldon, Chairman of the Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, has been elected Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) for the coming year. Mr Eldon was HKGCC Deputy Chairman for the past two years.

The election was held at the inaugural meeting of the new General Committee immediately after the HKGCC's Annual General Meeting this evening. Anthony Nightingale, Chairman in the past two years who is also Chairman of Jardine Pacific Limited, stepped down after the AGM.

Succeeding Mr Eldon as Deputy Chairman is Lily Chiang, Chairman of Eco-Tek Holdings Ltd.

The three Vice-Chairmen are Andrew Brandler, Group Managing Director of CLP Holdings Ltd; Anthony Wu, Chairman of Ernst & Young, and K K Yeung, Chairman of K K Yeung Management Consultants Ltd.

At the Annual General Meeting, members elected six members to fill the seats on the General Committee – the governing body of the Chamber – left vacant by those who have stepped down in accordance with the Articles of Association. Among them four are re-elected. They are Chan Wing Kee, Manohar Chugh, Tony Fung and James Tien.

The two new members are MTR Corporation Limited Chief Executive Officer C K Chow and Lan Kwai Fong Holdings Chairman Allan Zeman who replaced Esquel Group Chairman Marjorie Yang and Shangri-La Asia Ltd Chairman Alex Ye. Ms Yang and Mr Ye retired after serving on the Chamber's General Committee for 2 and 12 years respectively.

Other members on the General Committee are the Chamber's legislative councillor, the Honourable Jeffrey Lam, Michael Berchtold, Christopher Cheng, Hari Harilela, He Guangbei, Stanley Hui, Raymond Kwok, Victor Li, Liu Guoyuan, Stephen Ng, Anthony Nightingale, Jack So, David Turnbull, and Andrew Yuen.
