COVID-19 has taken a heavy toll on our economy and has been bad for the aviation industry with airlines cancelling most flights as a result of ongoing quarantine and other restrictive measures. The container terminal industry is also bearing the brunt, as the various forms of restrictions have disrupted the supply chain worldwide, leading to altered trade patterns.
As we struggle to get to grips with the outbreak, it is clear that there needs to be material rethink by the freight operators on ways to minimise the effects of the next Black Swan event. That means, among other things, drawing up and putting in place contingency plans, building in flexibility, improving user experience and injecting resilience into supply chains. We are pleased to have invited two industry experts George Edmunds, General Manager Cargo Commercial, Cathay Pacific Airways and Angelina Lei, Customer Service Director of Hongkong International Terminals, to share their insights on the impact and implications of the coronavirus on global freight and logistics industry, as well as the opportunities and challenges brought by shifting trade flows, cross-border e-commerce and digitalization.
Ms Lei will also provide an update on the Hong Kong Seaport Alliance – including its operating model, value proposition and strategies to reinforce Hong Kong's position as a key regional container port.
