Decarbonising Hong Kong 2050: Is Hydrogen the New Oil?

To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the transport sector is actively exploring alternative fuels as it charts a path towards sustainable mobility. At a seminar on 13 October, Mr Adam Leishman from Bravo Transport and Mr Jack Lam from Arup discussed the decarbonisation roadmap to a net-zero carbon transportation future through hydrogen. They also touched on the technical and legal challenges in popularizing hydrogen energy in Hong Kong, including the lack of hydrogen power stations and high green hydrogen prices. Professor Minhua Shao from HKUST Energy Institute shared the latest developments in building a more durable and cost-effective hydrogen fuel cell that could make hydrogen transport more commercially viable.

This is the third in a series of seminars on ‘Decarbonising Hong Kong 2050’, which focuses on how the government, businesses and communities are working towards Hong Kong's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
