Energy challenges in the Asia Pacific region

The growing demand for energy will be mainly driven by the transport and building sectors over the next three decades, according to the APEC Energy Demand and Supply Outlook report issued by the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC) in May. The report’s lead author, James M Kendell, Senior Vice President of the APERC, shared the key findings of the report, and their implications for energy policy in the Asia-Pacific region at a seminar on 24 June. Co-researcher Jun Fang discussed the energy challenges specific to Hong Kong, where efforts to promote renewables should continue. He also suggested finding innovative solutions to land constraint issues such as using reservoirs for floating photovoltaics
