How can the Government’s air quality improvement plans achieve World Health Organisation targets?
Cleaner Air in 2025: How Will This be Achieved?

A lively discussion on whether the Government’s proposed air quality improvement plans went far enough took place at a Chamber lunchtime seminar on 26 September.  In connection with an ongoing public consultation on Air Quality Objectives (“AQOs”) review, Dave Ho, the Environmental Protection Department Assistant Director for Air Policy, explained how the Government proposals to tighten AQOs over the next five years would move Hong Kong closer to the World Health Organisation’s Air Quality Guidelines.  Patrick Fung, CEO of the non-government organisation Clean Air Network and a panellist, felt that the Government should pursue bolder measures to better safeguard public health.
