Public Engagement on Long-term Decarbonisation Strategy
Paving the Way for Decarbonisation: How to Transform Hong Kong Into a Low-Carbon City?

The Council for Sustainable Development is seeking the views of the business sector for the public consultation on how Hong Kong can reduce its carbon emissions as part of its commitment to the Paris Agreement. At a roundtable luncheon on 2 September, two speakers from the Centre for Civil Society and Governance at the University of Hong Kong discussed the consultation process and how members can share their thoughts. Dr Winnie Law, Deputy Director and Principal Lecturer, briefed members on the process of drawing up a long-term decarbonisation strategy for the city. Darwin Leung, Assistant Project Manager of Policy for Sustainability Lab, explained the key issues raised in the public engagement document including the need to cut energy use in buildings, move away from vehicles using fossil fuels and for citizens to make major lifestyle changes.
