Dear Sirs,
Report on Public Consultation on Review of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance
The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present its views on several key issues discussed in the “Report on Public Consultation on Review of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance” published in October 2010 and the proposals the Government intends to take forward. Our response is detailed in the enclosed paper for your consideration and review.
In our 2009 submission in response to the review of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO), the importance of striking a balance between protecting personal data privacy and business efficacy was emphasised. In this round of consultation exercise, we would like to once again highlight the importance of striking such a balance. Also, we would urge for caution when heavier penalties, such as criminalisation, is contemplated.
Please refer to the attached submission for details.
Yours sincerely,
Alex Fong CEO Submission - Review of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance - Proposals to be Taken Forward (20-12-2010)
