The Challenge

The HKSAR Government published the Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong in 2017, listing over 70 initiatives under six smart areas, namely “Smart Mobility”, “Smart Living”, “Smart Environment”, “Smart People”, “Smart Government” and “Smart Economy”. The second edition of the Blueprint published in 2020 puts forth over 130 initiatives which continue to enhance and expand existing city management measures and services. The Blueprint offers various solutions to enhance the quality of life for Hong Kong residents. We cordially invite students to submit proposals outlining how CNK can leverage its inherent advantages and expertise to capitalise on the opportunities presented by the initiatives listed in the Smart City Blueprint under the "Smart Living" category. This exciting opportunity allows students to showcase their innovative thinking and contribute to the advancement of CNK's role in building a smarter and more sustainable city.

The proposal should focus on leveraging innovative technologies to effectively address the challenges faced by Hong Kong citizens, including the below key areas of application:

  1. Smart infrastructure;
  2. Digital services;
  3. Environmental sustainability; and
  4. Enhancements in quality of life

Expectations

A 5 to 10 slide presentation of their Submission produced in PDF format (for first round). The submission should suggest applications of innovative technologies which can bring the following benefits to Hong Kong citizens:

  • Enhancing efficiency: Improve efficiency and convenience for citizens through streamlining processes, reducing wait times, and optimising resource allocation in public services.
  • Promoting sustainability: Contribute to building a more sustainable and livable city through implementing environmentally friendly solutions, reducing energy consumption, promoting renewable energy and optimising resource allocation.
  • Fostering citizen engagement: Empower citizens through digital platforms and services to facilitate their participation in decision-making processes, community initiatives and public services.
  • Enhancing quality of life: Deliver personalized and accessible services in areas such as healthcare, education, transportation, and public safety to elevate the overall quality of life for Hong Kong citizens.

Proposal requirement

  • Research and development: Conducting research to identify the most suitable innovative technologies and solutions to address the specific need(s) of Hong Kong citizens.
  • Collaboration and partnerships: Establishing partnerships with technology providers, government agencies, academic institutions, and community organizations to leverage expertise and utilise resources.
  • Continuous evaluation and improvement: Identify measures to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the implemented solutions regularly, and make necessary adjustments and improvements based on feedback and data analysis.
