The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce announced that Mr George Leung Siu-kay has been appointed as CEO with effect from 1 May 2020.
Announcing the appointment, HKGCC Chairman Dr Aron Harilela, said: “George has a wealth of experience in banking, business, and public sector, so he clearly understands the needs and challenges affecting businesses. He has also been closely involved in the Chamber’s work for many years, having served as Chairman of the Financial & Treasury Services Committee, and Economic Policy Committee, so he understands the Chamber’s work and members well. This puts him in an ideal position to provide strong leadership to the Chamber Secretariat, and serve the needs and interests of our members.”
Mr Leung previously served as Advisor to the Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited. He was also a senior executive in charge of CEO Office and a member of the bank’s Hong Kong Executive Committee. In the past, Mr Leung also served as Acting Chairman of The Hong Kong Association of Banks, and as a member of various public bodies, including Financial Services Development Council, Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council, and The Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited, among others.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Leung said: “I am honoured to be joining Hong Kong’s leading business organization. The Chamber is well respected for its solid advocacy work and furthering the interests of the business community. I have been closely involved with the Chamber’s work through its committees and events for over 20 years, so I am pleased to now be in a position to steer that work and the Chamber’s role as the voice of business in Hong Kong.”
