Professor Lawrence Lau from the Chinese University of Hong Kong shared his insights on the relationship between Mainland China and the United States and introduced his new book "The China-U.S. Trade War and Future Economic Relations" at the Chamber’s Meet the Author Series roundtable luncheon on 4 March. Professor Lau explained why Mainland China and the U.S. should strengthen their economic interdependence for mutual benefits, and shared his sense of optimism about the Chinese economy. Members had the opportunity to have their books signed by Professor Lau after the luncheon.

Dr Michael Spencer, Chief Economist and Head of Research, Asia Pacific, at Deutsche Bank, shared his views on how policy uncertainty might affect various major economies at a roundtable luncheon on 11 January. He also shed light on how the trade war and other factors such as changes in interest rates could weigh on the Hong Kong economy as well as the city’s private consumption growth.
