A new chapter begins for the HKGCC. On the threshold of its 165th anniversary, the Chamber has unveiled a newly transformed headquarters embodying progress, adaptability and ambition – purpose‑built to inspire collaboration and empower its personnel to seize opportunities on a global level.
From the new Members’ Lounge to a suite of flexible meeting and event spaces, the refurbished office has been reimagined as a dynamic business hub in the heart of the city. Designed with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, efficiency and high‑quality development, the space captures the essence of Hong Kong’s enterprising spirit.
Just like the city of Hong Kong, the HKGCC continues to evolve with the times. In a rapidly changing global business environment, adaptability has become fundamental to long‑term success – an ethos clearly reflected in the Chamber’s renovated headquarters.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Financial Secretary Paul Chan underscored the significance of this shift, noting that the thoughtful renovation delivers a more comfortable and functional space, enhances facilities for meetings and engagement, and strengthens support for the Chamber’s ongoing initiatives.
The headquarters’ renewal is also in line with the Government’s push towards building a more sustainable city as Hong Kong advances its green economy agenda. With climate change reaching increasingly alarming levels, the Chamber is committed to encouraging its employees and members to pursue – and actively choose – a more sustainable way of life.
Building on this vision for sustainability and long‑term resilience, the HKGCC has strongly advocated for environmentally friendly measures in its day‑to‑day activities. These ambitions are embedded in the very fabric of the space. To bring this vision to life, the Chamber spoke to its design partners to share the inspiration behind the project. Gary Lai, Founder of Spatial Concept, reveals that “the newly designed Eco‑Brick Wall is created from sustainable materials symbolic of the Chamber’s legacy. Built brick by brick, it traces the parallel growth stories of Hong Kong and the HKGCC.”
Hong Kong’s past is also reflected in the walls of the Chamber, with each photograph recounting a significant piece of history. Lai adds that heritage and legacy played a key part in the design process, reinforcing a sense of continuity and the harmonious interdependence between the city and this institution.
He highlights that the renovated office space extends this emphasis on continuity into the way people work and connect. Open‑plan layouts and shared spaces are intentionally designed to encourage interaction, dialogue and the exchange of ideas. Every design decision has been guided by staff well‑being and the desire to enhance their experience of contributing to the Chamber’s mission.
With a focus on people‑friendly design, the workplace moves away from traditional office conventions, reflecting new ways of working shaped by openness, adaptability and collaboration. Raymond Chan of SA Project echoed this emphasis on partnership and cooperation, noting the thorough execution required for a project of this scale, “We focused on mock-ups, detailed drawings and quality installations to ensure we captured the deep relevance of HKGCC’s community-driven values.”
This commitment to precision was evident in the implementation with each stage ensuring that vision was faithfully realised in practice. It is this critical focus on quality, alignment and long-term impact resonates across the project team, underpinning the Chamber’s ambition of a future ready workspace. Bringing this aspirational design vision to life required meticulous attention to detail in execution. Ryan Wong, Executive Director at JLL, and Edward Wan, Project Director at JLL, worked closely throughout the project to ensure that the delivery matched its forward‑looking intent, noting that “the transformation of the Chamber’s headquarters was essential to cultivating a brighter future for Hong Kong, creating an environment where business leaders can share ideas and help shape policy initiatives that support the city’s continued progress.”
They emphasized that the space is designed to bring together businesses from across sectors. “This is not just another office for us. Its true value lies in the conversations it enables – unlocking the city’s untapped potential. We are proud to have played a part in creating a space for those discussions,” Wong adds. In reimagining its home, the HKGCC has created a space for the future while honouring its long-standing foundations. More than a workplace, it is a platform where leaders gather to shape the city’s next chapter – brick by brick, and conversation by conversation.
