Under Hong Kong's employment legislation, it is to the benefits of employers to navigate potential pitfalls to prevent employment conflicts or unreasonable complaints resulting from employee's misunderstanding or misbehaviours.

This practical workshop will examine some common court cases relating to employees' behaviours and offer advises on employers' actions to avoid the risks.

Course content:

Common situations when managing employees:-
• Effective methods and procedures for recruiting, selecting and interviewing employees
• Legal issues concerning probation period and staff injury
• What are the essential elements to be incorporated in "Code of Conduct" and how to monitor its implementation?
• How to prevent staff misbehaviour and conduct "Disciplinary actions"?
• Legal issues when handling sick leave and maternity leave application
• How to prevent invasion of privacy or other discrimination laws?
• Common legal issues when issuing verbal and written warnings at work
• What should employer pay attention to when dismissing employees or conducting the "summary dismissal"?

Analysis of court cases
• Is it lawful for employer to monitor employee at the workplace?
• Can employer conduct surveillance on employee's private message?
• Can employer request employee to "resign" as cost-saving measures?
• What are the legal impacts of incorporating "Post-employment Restrictions" in the employment contract, so as to protect the legitimate interests of employer?
• Legal issues regarding "Confidential Information" during and after the employment period

Notes - Bookings are only confirmed upon receipt of payment, on a first come first served basis.
- Booking transfer is allowed for corporate members with advanced notice, walk-ins are normally not accepted.
- The Chamber reserves the right to decline any booking or cancel the event. In such case, a full refund of the participation fee will be issued.
- No refund will be made for last minute cancellations or no-shows. If the booking is cancelled at least 7 days before the event, and in such cases the refund will be subjected to a 10% administration fee, or HK$100 deduction, whichever is higher.
- Members paying with their BOC HKGCC Visa Card will enjoy a 30% discount on their reservation. The discount is only applicable to the card holder, and does not extend to their guests. The discount cannot be used in conjunction with Chamber Coupons.

- Priority is given to corporate members. The decision to accept or decline any booking shall be at sole discretion of the Chamber.
