Update on Panama Canal’s Role and Trade War
Panama, a nation of 4 million people, is well known as a global shipping and aviation hub. But it is also at the forefront of technology development, and expects to be one of the first countries in the world to launch 5G mobile services. At the Americas Committee meeting on 10 June, Consul General of Panama Maria Eugenia Amaya discussed these developments, and explained that the country’s canal and airports have been expanded to accommodate continuing growth.
At the same meeting, Dr Mark Michelson, Chairman of Asia CEO Forum, shared his views on the ongoing U.S.-China trade dispute, which is disrupting businesses around the world. He said it is a very emotional issue, and both sides are having to face politically dangerous backlashes if they appear to be conceding any ground to the other side.
