Davide De Rosa, Partner of Gianni Origoni Grippo Cappelli & Partners, discussed the EU’s new screening regulations on foreign direct investments at the Chamber’s webinar on 25 August. He introduced the background behind the changes, which will come into effect in October, and what businesses should pay attention to. He stressed that the new regulations aimed to avoid a sell-off of Europe’s business and industrial sectors, and that he doesn’t think it will deter FDI into the E.U. However, foreign investors need to be aware that investments that fall under specific sectors that impact national security may require more time to go through the screening process. A key point was that the country receiving the investment has the right to object to the E.U.’s recommendation on whether or not to accept the investment.
