[Webinar] The Quest for Stabilization - China Macro Outlook in 2H20

The Chinese Mainland economy will recover quickly from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and see strong growth next year, according to Helen Qiao, Managing Director and Chief Economist for Greater China and Head of Asia Economics Research at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Qiao was speaking to members at a webinar on 20 August, where she shared her views on the outlook for the Chinese economy.

Although the economy shrank for the first time on record during the Covid-19 outbreak, it has already returned to growth. Qiao predicted that it would continue to recover and register a 8.5% growth in 2021, following a 2% expansion this year. She added that a recent uptick in economic activity was mainly driven by stronger investment and exports, and that recovery in consumption was still lagging.
