Destination BVI – Where Global Business Solutions and Dispute Resolution Meet
Members learned about some of the attractions of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) for businesses at a roundtable luncheon on 17 October. Charlie Clayton-Payne, Partner (Banking and Finance) at Harneys, a law firm that advises on BVI and other offshore locations, discussed the benefits of using entities in BVI to facilitate financial transactions in the Greater China and Asia-Pacific regions, such as its well-established legal framework and political neutrality.
He was joined by Francois Lassalle, CEO of BVI International Arbitration Centre. Lassalle explained that BVI has a number of attractions as a seat for resolving international commercial disputes, including flexibility in panel choice and offering a choice of governing law different from the seat of arbitration.
