How did a small nation like Israel become a technology and start-up giant? A group of members learned how a combination of cultural, political and economic factors has fuelled an innovative business climate during a six-day study tour organized by the Chamber’s Young Executives Club and HKU’s SPACE Executive Academy (SEA) on 1-6 April.

During the trip, members visited innovative companies including MobileEye, Orcam, Supercom and the Floor, as well as one of the largest incubators in Jerusalem – AtoBe Accelerator – to understand more about the start-up ecosystem in the country.

Four entrepreneurship workshops at the Hebrew University covered topics including new technologies and game theory, with lecturers including Nobel Prize Winner Professor Robert J Aumann. Participants also learned how Jewish culture has contributed to the country’s fertile environment of innovation and entrepreneurship. The visitors also had the opportunity to do some sightseeing to the Dead Sea and the historical fortress of Masada.
