Event overview

The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Women Executives Club is delighted to present The Women Summit 2016. Carrying the theme "Leaders in the Spotlight", the Summit will feature successful women leaders of different backgrounds to share their inspirational stories and the impact they have made upon their organizations and society. This half-day inspirational event will take place on 20 October 2016 at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center.

Previous Summit
The first HKGCC Women Summit was held on 11 May 2012 at the Residence of the Consul-General of The Netherlands with over 100 senior executives attended.

Purpose of the Summit
The Women Summit aims at providing a platform for female leaders in Hong Kong to share and connect with each other from the perspectives of Work, Family and Life.

Vicki CHAN
Executive Director, Continental Holdings Ltd

Vicki Chan joined Continental Holdings Limited in 1995. She is an Executive Director of the Group. Continental Holdings Limited is a listed company on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange with its principle activities in the manufacturing, marketing, trading of fine jewelry and maintains an investment portfolio including property investments, mining and other industries. Ms Chan is also the Managing Director of Continental Diamond, a wholly owned subsidiary of Continental Holdings Limited. In addition to the participating in the Group's strategic planning and business development, she is responsible for the property development, sales and investment of their property portfolio.

Ms Chan graduated from University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor degree in Economics and Business Administration. Ms Chan is a Graduate Gemologist of the Gemological Institute of America. She is married with a daughter. Aside from work and family, she is active in the Zonta community. She is the Charter President of Zonta Club of Hong Kong II and Area Director of Zonta International District 17 during the period 2010-2012. She is the eldest daughter of Dr Charles Chan, Group Chairman and Co-founder of Continental Holdings Limited.

Sonia CHENG
CEO, Rosewood Hotel Group

Sonia Cheng is Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong-based Rosewood Hotel Group, one of the fastest growing international hotel management companies in the world. The company is strategically comprised of three highly distinctive hotel brands in separate market tiers. These include ultra-luxury Rosewood Hotels & Resorts®, deluxe five-star New World Hotels & Resorts, and neighborhood lifestyle brand pentahotels.

Ms. Cheng has dynamically and creatively led a team of seasoned industry professionals to strategically expand the company’s portfolio, which now incorporates 55 properties across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Ms. Cheng is also executive director of New World Development Company Limited and New World China Land, comprising one of the largest conglomerates in Hong Kong. Before joining Rosewood Hotel Group, Ms. Cheng worked with a major international investment bank and a global American private equity firm, specializing in real estate investments.

She is currently the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a member of the Advisory Committee of the School of Hotel & Tourism Management Industry at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is a member of the Y. Elites Association, the Young Presidents’ Organisation, the Hong Kong United Youth Association and the Eleventh Guizhou Municipal Committee of The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Ms. Cheng also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in Economics from Harvard University.

Diana CHOU
Founder and Chairman of Aerochine Aviation Limited

Diana Chou is the first woman to sell private jets in Asia and has shaped the development of this industry for over 18 years.

Apart from founding private jet sales business Sino Private Aviation (SPAL) in 1999, she pioneered the sales of helicopters in China through her company Aerochine Aviation, which in August 2015 established the region's first world-class rotary wing MRO facility at Zhenjiang Aviation & Aerospace Industrial Park, Jiangsu, expanding the company's operations from helicopter sales to maintenance service. This is slated to be operational by 3rd quarter 2016.

In 2013, Ms Chou founded bespoke business aircraft charter service L'VOYAGE to provide services using existing clients' underutilized inventory and to introduce future clients to unprecedented private travel experiences. L'VOYAGE standard operating procedures ensure that safety standards are of primary concern and the company is the first WYVERN accredited chartering firm in Asia.

In 2014 and 2015, SPAL and Aerochine were awarded the "Best Agent of the Year" and "Best Dealer of the Year" respectively, by U-Jet Magazine.

Of great important to Ms Chou is a deep sense of social responsibility. Her companies support UNICEF's "28 days to save a child's life" fundraising campaign. Additionally, Aerochine has undertaken a scholarship program for pilots and an internship program with Hong Kong's VTC for mechanics.

Diana Chou is a founding member and has been honoured Executive Committee Member of Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA), and awarded "Leader of the Woman of the Year 2015"; a Member of Ningbo Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; a Board Member of The General Association of Zhejiang Entrepreneurs; a Council Member of The Better HK Foundation. She currently holds office as Vice Chairman of Ningbo & Hong Kong Fraternity Association; Director of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC) and Vice Chairman of the Board of HK & Mainland International Investment Society (HKMIS). She is also a Director of General Aviation Council since 2014. In 2010 and 2012 she was awarded Women Entrepreneur of the Year by All China Women's Federation. In 2013 The Canadian Chartered Institute of Business Administration recognized Ms Chou by awarding her a Fellowship and designated her as Charter Manager.

Maggie KOONG
Chief Principal, Victoria Educational Organisation

Dr. Maggie Koong received her Master of Education from The University of Hong Kong and Doctor of Education from University of Durham. An experienced and highly respected early childhood education leader and advocate, she is the Chief Principal of 18 kindergartens in Hong Kong and China. She has consistently advocated for high quality early childhood education, gender equality and women's empowerment, and has been directly appointed by the Government of Hong Kong SAR to serve on key government committees such as Women’s Commission, Family Council, Equal Opportunity Commission, Committee on Free Kindergarten Education, and the Council of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her leadership and strong contributions to the society is well recognized through the honour of the 2000 Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award, the 2013 Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) Award in Hong Kong, the 2014 Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters by Whittier College, USA, and the 2015 Honorary Fellowship by the Hong Kong Institute of Education. Dr. Koong is currently the World President of the World Organization for Early Childhood Education (OMEP) and an Executive Committee member of Hong Kong Federation of Women.

Aron HARILELA
Deputy Chairman, Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce

Dr. Aron Harilela is the Chairman & CEO of Harilela Hotels Limited, with responsibility for overseeing operations in hotels within S.E. Asia and Europe. He is also in charge of acquisitions for The Harilela Group. Aron joined the group at their London office in 1994 and subsequently joined the Hong Kong headquarters in 1996. Harilela Hotels Ltd is a privately owned multinational company that has over twenty years of experience in the investment and development of hotels in the United States, Asia, Europe and Canada.

Aron is the non-executive Chairman for Burson Marsteller in Hong Kong. He served on The Court of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology for over 10 years and is now an Honorary Court Member. He served as a member on The Court of The University of Hong Kong from 2006 and is the Honorary Patron of The Hong Kong University Foundation. In September 2015, he was conferred with an Honorary University Fellowship by The University of Hong Kong. Earlier in January 2012, he was conferred with a University Fellowship from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, which is ranked number 2 amongst the world’s top hotel and tourism schools. He is also an Honorary Life Vice President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Foundation.

On 1st July 2014, The Government of Hong Kong SAR appointed Aron as a Justice of the Peace. Aron is the Deputy Chairman of the General Committee of The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC). He was also appointed as an Investment Promotion Ambassador (IPA) for InvestHK in year 2011. He is a Board Member of The Hong Kong Community Chest.

Aron graduated with an honours Bachelor degree in Law and Politics, and a Ph.D. in Political Philosophy, both from the University of Hull, England.

Alice AU
Managing Director, Spencer Stuart

Alice Au is a member of Spencer Stuart’s global board of directors and leads Spencer Stuart’s global Financial Services Practice out of Hong Kong. She also leads the Board and Private Equity practices in Asia Pacific. A global citizen with deep relationships across industries, she brings more than 20 years of executive search and leadership counsel experience to her clients. She helps multinationals, principal investors, Asian and Chinese businesses, as well as family businesses, strengthen their governance practices and succession planning, and build and renew their boards and leadership to meet their strategic goals.

Deep insight into Asia business
- Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Alice was a senior partner with another leading international executive search firm. She led the firm’s CEO and board services practice, as well as the private equity practice in Asia Pacific; guided the rebuilding and expansion of the Hong Kong office; and helped numerous Asian and multinational companies and private equity firms meet their senior leadership needs across Asia.
- Alice began her career as a semiconductor engineer at Digital Equipment Corporation in the U.S. She then joined McKinsey & Company as a management consultant in New York, where she advised Fortune 100 clients on strategic, organizational and technology issues. She later joined International Paper Company as an executive in corporate development, leading cross-functional teams in negotiating acquisitions in North America, Europe and Asia.
- Alice returned to Hong Kong in 1993 to establish a China fund and advise midsize international companies on their China entry strategies, then joined the executive search industry in 1995. She took a one-year leave from the business in 1999 to lead strategic planning and e-commerce at AsiaContent.com, which successfully listed on NASDAQ in 2000.

Alice has a bachelor‘s degree in chemical engineering from Yale University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. From 2010 to 2012, she served as a part-time member of the Central Policy Unit of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR. Since 2013, she has been a member of the Human Capital Committee of the newly formed Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) in Hong Kong SAR.

Joanlin AU
Director, JA Design Architects Ltd

Joanlin Au set up her architectural practice since 1997, and currently has offices in both Hong Kong and PRC. She was a Council Member, Chairperson of the Board of External Affairs, Vice President and Juror of HKIA Annual Awards and presently, she is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects.

Miss Au also sat in the Jury Panel for the M+ Museum Design Competition to select Concept Designand Design Team for WKCDA, Member for Railway Objections Hearing Panel, Member and Chairperson for Authorized Persons Registration Committee for the HKSAR Buildings Department. She also served as critic and Honorary Associate Professor for the HKU School of Architecture.

Joanlin Au was awarded a First Honour degree in Architectural Studies in 1977 and a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture with Distinction in 1979 from the University of Hong Kong. During her studies, she won the Jardine Henry Lo Scholarship, Cement Marketing prize from U.K., prizes from the German and Scandinavian Chapters of the UIA. She worked for D. A. Russell and Associates in Hong Kong, and she joined Foster Associate and worked in the new Headquarters for HSBC in 1983. Since the establishment of JA Design Architects Ltd, Joanlin pledges to provide a comprehensive range of Architectural services tailored to meet the specific needs and requirements of individual client.

Renowned for its unique design flair, the Company provides itself on its innovative yet pragmatic approach to architectural design, whether it is the mansions at Gough Hill blending the old and new, heritage and high-tech, to the adoption of aged timber and rusty granite slabs in interpretating "nature" in the hotel at TST.

In the recent past, Joanlin extends the customized professional services to Architecture outside Hong Kong in creating aesthetics with a sense of culture.

Polly CHEUNG
Founder, Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation

Dr Cheung is a medical graduate of the University of Hong Kong and received her surgical training at the Department of Surgery, and specialty training in Breast & Endocrine Surgery at the University of Michigan.

During her years of service as University academic surgeon at Queen Mary Hospital and consultant surgeon at Kwong Wah Hospital, she started a one-stop breast clinic, incorporating needle biopsy procedures and breast ultrasound; initiated breast conserving surgery and breast reconstruction; and set up the first breast-screening program in Hong Kong in 1990.

After entering into private practice, Dr Cheung set up the first Breast Care Centre in private hospital in 1999, introducing stereotactic breast biopsy system into Hong Kong.

In 2001, Dr Cheung started the first sentinel node biopsy program in private hospital.

In 2003, she set up a Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Team in private, which holds weekly conference providing multimodality treatment plans for breast cancer patients.

In 2005, she founded the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to breast cancer education, patient support, research and advocacy.

In 2007, she established the comprehensive Hong Kong Breast Cancer Registry – capturing local breast cancer data, for research and analysis in improving breast cancer prevention and care.

In 2011, she set up a community-based Breast Health Centre, providing free breast screening for underprivileged women in Hong Kong.

In 2014, she led the launch of “Breast Cancer HK Online”, a web-based interactive platform of Hong Kong Breast Cancer Registry, which provides instant data analysis on local disease profile and treatment, to assist medical professionals in their treatment decision.

Apart from her private practice, she is also Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Hong Kong, Honorary Director of the Breast Care Centre of the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, trainer for Surgical Program for the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong. Dr Cheung serves as President of Breast Surgery International (2011-3), and founding President of the Hong Kong Society of Breast Surgeons.

Jayne LEUNG
Head, Greater China, Facebook

Jayne Leung is the Head of Greater China at Facebook, responsible for the advertising business in the region. She joined Facebook from the Rubicon Project, where she served the California-based company to build out their first Asia operation. Prior to that Jayne was with DoubleClick/Google as the APAC Head of New Media Sales.

Viveca CHAN
Founder, WE Marketing Group

Viveca has over 30 years brand marketing experience and is the Founder and Chairman of the WE group of companies since 2005. WE’s mission is to help global brands localize and local brands localize. In the past ten years, WE helped build successful international and local brands in China including Mercedes Benz, Estee Lauder, Roewe auto, Lufthansa, Kjeldsens Butter Cookies, Campbell's soup and Tempo amongst many others.

Viveca plays an active role in the industry. She is Executive Council Member of the HK Management Association, Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce (Shanghai) and Guangdong E-Commerce & Investment Association. She serves on the Advisory Board of various organizations including HK Trade Development Council, Judging Chairman for numerous marketing and digital awards including ECI e-commerce Award, Greater China Effie Award, China Marketing Awards, Tiger Roar Awards, Golden Mouse Award, Golden Wheat Award etc. Her contribution has been recognized with over 50 personal awards including “ 2005 Women of Influence- Professional of the Year” from American Chamber of Commerce, “Top 100 China Entrepreneurs” by China Economic Journal, “Contributor to China 30 Years of Advertising” from China Advertising, Ad Age Global’s “100 Most Influential Women in Advertising”, “Campaign Asia’ Digital A List Hall of Fame and “2015 Innovative e-commerce Marketer of the Year” by ECI E-commerce Award.

Before WE, Viveca was Chairman & CEO of Grey Global Group China/Hong Kong and was instrumental in building up the group’s China network and specialized communication disciplines.

Viveca graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Marketing.

CHEUNG Yuen Ting
Award-winning Film Director

Mabel Cheung graduated from the University of Hong Kong, majoring in English Literature and Psychology. She holds a Graduate Diploma in Drama and Visual Arts from Bristol University, UK, and an M.F.A. Degree in Film Production from the New York University Graduate Film School.

Cheung has become an award-winning director since her debut feature, The Illegal Immigrant (1985), which won her the Best Director Prize at the Hong Kong Film Awards and a Special Jury Award at the 30th Asia Pacific Film Festival. An Autumn’s Tale (1987) signaled another high point of her career, winning four Hong Kong Film Awards, including Best Picture and Best Screenplay. The Soong Sisters (1997) won three Taiwan Golden Horse Awards and six Hong Kong Film Awards. Other films she has made – City of Glass (1998), Beijing Rocks (2001), and Traces of a Dragon (2003) – have been selected by film festivals worldwide.

Cheung has also produced many popular films, including Painted Faces (1998), Now You See Love, Now You Don’t (1992), and The Moon Warriors (1993). In 2005 she directed Song of Light and Shadows, a stage musical in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Chinese cinema, which was awarded the Gold Prize for Best Performance in China. In 2010 she produced the motion picture Echoes of the Rainbow, winner of the Crystal Bear award at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival, Generation Section, as well as four Hong Kong film awards. Her latest directorial effort is A Tale of Three Cities, starring Jean Lau and Tang Wei.

Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce

Stephen Ng, Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), joined HKGCC’s General Committee in 2002. He was elected Vice Chairman and Deputy Chairman in 2012 and 2014 respectively.

Stephen Ng is Chairman and Managing Director of the publicly listed The Wharf (Holdings) Limited. He joined the Group in January 1981 and was appointed Director and Chief Financial Officer in October 1987 and Managing Director in May 1989. He was appointed Deputy Chairman in June 1994 and Chairman in May 2015.

Playing a major role in other listed companies in Hong Kong and Singapore, Mr Ng is Deputy Chairman of Wheelock and Company Limited, Chairman of Harbour Centre Development Limited, i-CABLE Communications Limited, Joyce Boutique Holdings Limited and Wheelock Properties (Singapore) Limited, as well as a Director of Hotel Properties Limited.

Mr Ng was born in Hong Kong in 1952. He studied at Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin, U.S.A. and the University of Bonn, Germany, from 1971 to 1975, and graduated with a major in mathematics. He is Chairman of Project WeCan Committee and a Council Member of the Employers’ Federation of Hong Kong.
