Conversation with Consuls General of the African and Middle Eastern Regions Cum Cocktail Reception

The Chamber's Asia Africa Committee hosted a cocktail reception on April 9 for Consuls General of Iran, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Neville S Shroff, Vice Chairman of the Chamber's Asia/Africa Committee, welcomed members and guests, before handing the microphone to Chamber CEO Alex Fong, to host a dialogue with the Consuls General.

'Refabricating City' Hong Kong-Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture
|
The Chamber organized a guided visit to the "Refabricating City" exhibition, which highlighted the architecture and urban spaces fabricated through the interweaving of buildings. As Hong Kong's inaugural architecture, design and planning exposition, it was one of the most extensive exhibition showcasing works by leading international professionals in their respective creative fields. The exhibition was held at the historic site Central Police Station Compound, which formerly housed the police force, magistracy and prison dating back to the 1840s.

Chamber SME Spring Dinner 2008
|
Over 400 Chamber members and their guests joined the Chamber's annual HKGCC Spring Dinner on February 29, hosted by HKGCC Vice Chairman KK Yeung. An exciting evening of entertainment, including 53 lucky draw prizes, beer drinking competitions, and singing by local artiste Boey Wong giving renditions of popular Cantonese classics, ensured that all who attended had a fantastic evening.

Conversation with Consuls General of the Asian Region Cum Cocktail Reception

The Chamber's Asia Committee hosted a cocktail reception on February 27 for eight Consuls General of the Asian region -- Brunei, Indonesia, Korea, Laos, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore and Vietnam -- who gave a brief snapshot of relations between Hong Kong and their home countries. Neville S Shroff, Vice Chairman of the Chamber's Asia/Africa Committee, welcomed guests before handing the microphone to Chamber CEO Alex Fong, to chat with the Consuls General.

Cheers Europe!

The Chamber's Europe Committee hosted its first round of cocktail receptions for 2008 on January 24, at Hong Kong Club, in honour of European Consuls General in the HKSAR. Serge G Fafalen, the committee's Vice Chairman, gave a warm welcome to guests and members attending the event, before Chamber CEO Alex Fong took the stage to host a lively dialogue with the attending Consuls General. The next cocktail reception for the European region is tentatively scheduled for June 2008.

Members Visit Da Chan Bay Terminal One
|
Da Chan Bay will be the latest addition to the network of container terminals in South China that currently includes Yantian, Shekou, Chiwan, and Nansha. Managed by Modern Terminals Limited, Da Chan Bay Terminal One opened two of its berths for business in December 2007, and a further three expected to come on-stream in 2008. To learn more about the new container port and how businesses operating in the west of Shenzhen might be able make use of the port, the Chamber organized a site visit to the facility on December 10.

HKGCC Members Christmas Cocktail
|
Dr Lily Chiang, Chairman of HKGCC, hosted the Chamber's Members' Christmas Cocktail at Hong Kong Club on December 6. Over 400 members attended the event to celebrate the festive season and to meet both old and new faces at the Chamber. Alex Fong, Chamber CEO, officiated over the lucky draw for the Member-get-Member Contest. Gerry Ma won the grand prize of two business class return tickets to Vancouver, courtesy of Oasis Airlines.

Forty-one Good Citizens Commended for Fighting Crime
|
Forty-one citizens who had helped the Police fight crime were commended for their actions at the Good Citizen Award Presentation Ceremony on December 6, with one recipient being presented the Good Citizen of the Year Award. The presentation ceremony, held twice a year, was organised by the Police Public Relations Branch with full sponsorship from the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber has been the sole sponsor of the award since its inception in 1973.

HKGCC Delegation Attends 11th Beijing-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium
|
KK Yeung, Chamber Vice Chairman, and Alan Wong, China Committee Chairman, led HKGCC¡¦s delegation to attend the 11th Beijing-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium, which took place in Beijing from November 5-6. Mr Yeung met with Liu Qi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of Beijing Municipal Party Committee, together with the Hong Kong business community delegation led by Chief Secretary for Administration Henry Tang. The Chamber delegation also attended a high-level roundtable meeting on future cooperation in the services industry and infrastructure, as well as visited Olympic venues and the National Grand Theater.
