Cultural Extravaganza cum Cocktail Reception

The Chamber's Asia-Africa Committee hosted a cocktail reception on May 26 under the banner 'Cultural Extravaganza' for Consuls General of Brunei, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Pakistan. Specialty foods, traditional snacks, wines and art from the respective countries were featured at the event. Neville S Shroff, Chairman of the Chamber's Asia-Africa Committee, welcomed members and guests, before handing the microphone over to Chamber CEO Alex Fong to host a dialogue with the Consuls General.

Chamber Members Aboard Diamond Princess
|
One of the world's largest cruise liners, Diamond Princess, made a port of call in Hong Kong last month. To find out why the 116,000-ton floating hotel is considered a destination in itself, the Chamber arranged for 34 members to tour the ship.

HKGCC Members' Cocktail
|
HKGCC Chairman Andrew Brandler hosted the Chamber's Members' Christmas Cocktail at the Hong Kong Club on December 2. Almost 400 members attended the event to celebrate the festive season and to meet both old and new faces at the Chamber. CEO Alex Fong officiated over the lucky draw for the Member-Get-Member Contest. John Cameron won the Grand Prize -- a junior suite onboard Royal Caribbean International's Legend of the Seas for a four-night Isles of Southeast Asia Cruise, while Martinal Quan won second prize ¡V one return, economy class ticket on Hong Kong Express or Thai Airways. The Chamber wishes to thank Royal Caribbean International, and Sunflower Travel Service for kindly donating the prizes.

The Chamber organized a site visit to the City University of Hong Kong to inspect the latest technologies applicable to industrial and logistics sectors. Members viewed the latest research in RFID, EMC and optoelectronics among other technologies.

HKGCC Annual General Meeting 2008

Members mingled and networked at a cocktail reception before the start of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce's Annual General Meeting on May 15. At the inaugural meeting of the new General Committee immediately after the AGM, Andrew Brandler, Chief Executive Officer of CLP Holdings Ltd, was elected Chairman of HKGCC for the coming year.

'Refabricating City' Hong Kong-Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture
|
The Chamber organized a guided visit to the "Refabricating City" exhibition, which highlighted the architecture and urban spaces fabricated through the interweaving of buildings. As Hong Kong's inaugural architecture, design and planning exposition, it was one of the most extensive exhibition showcasing works by leading international professionals in their respective creative fields. The exhibition was held at the historic site Central Police Station Compound, which formerly housed the police force, magistracy and prison dating back to the 1840s.
