Purpose
The Chamber WEC will
strengthen the fellowship of female Chamber members through networking, teamwork, events,
and activities, which will in turn benefit the Chamber as a whole.
The Chamber WEC adds
to the existing Chamber's program structure by providing more women's interests events and
some non-business meetings or recreation activities; by facilitating intellectual exchange
of lady participants; by raising awareness of social and educational issues; by
contributing in terms of charitable activities. In other words, the Chamber WEC "adds
a human face" to the Chamber.
Work
The Chamber WEC is a
club-structure group composed of female Chamber members only. The Chamber WEC will
identify its own leaders on a voluntary basis, to lead the club, distribute tasks,
organize and run club programs, and coordinate project leaders and workers. All these are
carried out with minimal dependence on the secretariat, although the secretariat will
provide support when possible.
Activities organized
by the Chamber WEC differ from the existing Chamber programs. They will be particularly
designed for women, addressing their specific needs for information and leisure. Most
events are also open to men, except for programs which are necessarily "women
only." The Chamber WEC also will take up the role to organize some Chamber-wide
programs, such as gala ball or major fundraiser.
WEC leaders will
have a high degree of flexibility in designing club's programs - as long as the nature of
the program is in keeping with the Chamber's name and reputation. WEC programs are
basically operated on a self-financed or cost-recovery basis, through program charges or
fundraising. Financial sponsors are welcome.
Membership
Chamber WEC
membership is restricted to Chamber member companies' female employees; or female
individual associates. WEC membership is initially free of charge, subject to change with
club's decision.
Structure of
Leaders and Volunteers
Chamber WEC will be
led by an Executive Group consisted of a President, an Executive Vice President, and six
Vice Presidents, and a Treasurer. The Executive Group will meet at least once every two
months.
The President and
the Executive Vice President supervise and coordinate the work of 6 Vice Presidents
overseeing six initial interest areas:
- Business Issues
- Women's Interests
- Community / Charity / Education
- Leisure Recreation Activities
- Chamber-wide events
- Membership
These Vice
Presidents will be assisted by volunteer members in the capacity of project leaders,
helpers or workers. Project leaders can be in charge of an individual program on an ad hoc
basis, while helpers or workers can provide secretarial support and logistics
arrangements. The Chamber WEC may, from time to time, have honorary advisors. They will be
invited to join Executive Group meetings.
The Treasurer will
monitor the budget for the WEC, assist all VPs in keeping the programs' operation within
budget, and give advice to the VPs in drafting the budget for the President's approval.
Term of Office
The duration of term
for the President, Executive Vice President and all Vice Presidents is one year, eligible
for re-election at the end of the term.
