The Chamber's logo has
changed little over the course of its 140-year history. Originally in the form of a round
seal with the words: The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce * Founded 1861 * , running
around the edge and surrounding a stylised, interlinking HKGCC in the centre, the logo
represented the Chamber for over a century.
Then, in the early 1980s, one of the Chamber's translators, skilled in
the art of Chinese calligraphy, wrote an attractive version of the Chamber's name in
Chinese. This became a Chinese logo, of sorts, which ?although was never officially
considered a logo ?was printed on the Chamber's letterhead for a number of years.
The Chamber moved to its new premises from Swire House in the Summer of
1984, and officially reopened for business on Monday, August 13, 1984. While plans for the
move were being made, a decision was taken to change the logo to coincide with the change
of address. The Chinese name was incorporated into the heart of the logo by removing the
stylised HKGCC, and it remained unchanged for 17 years, when the new HKGCC logo was
unveiled on February 22, 2001.
