As China's accession to the WTO enters the final and critical negotiation stage, the whole
world is watching and waiting. Fifteen years have passed since China first applied to
enter the world trade body in July 1986. In that time it has gone through four stages:
preparation (1986-1987), examination (1987-1992), negotiation (1993-1999) and conclusion
(1999-present). If we examine the negotiation process from 1986, we will find the road to
WTO has been littered with obstacles, but we are assured of an exciting finale with
