Chamber CEO Dr Eden Woon on October 27 and 28 respectively.
The 14th Hong Kong -- Kagoshima Conference
took
place on November 11. Kagoshima and Hong Kong enjoy strong mutual exchanges in the
economic, tourism, culture and sports sectors. Chamber General Committee member Andrew
Yuen attended the conference on behalf of the Chamber, while Chamber Chairman Anthony
Nightingale participated in an evening cocktail reception and met with the Vice Governor
of Kagoshima, Minoru Wakita and Consul General of Japan in Hong Kong Takanori Kitamura.
Wang Hongju, Mayor of Chongqing, met with Chamber CEO Dr Eden
Woon before the Chongqing Hong Kong Cooperation Projects Signing Ceremony on October 19,
at which Dr Woon signed an MOU with Zhou Xiaoping, Vice Director of Chongqing Foreign
Trade and Economic Relations Commission.
Hu Guocai, Director General of Economic Affairs Department of
Liaison Office and Zhou Jie, Vice Chairman & Chief Executive of The Hong
Kong Chinese Enterprises Association called on the Chamber on October 20 to discuss
cooperation for a mission to Northeast China in 2005.
The Changshu
Service Sector Investment Introduction Seminar took place on October 26, at which Eva Chow, Director of
International Business of the Chamber, represented HKGCC at the opening ceremony to
deliver a speech.
Gao Yangxiu, Vice Director of Shaanxi Development and Reform
Committee, led a delegation to the Chamber on October 26 to discuss their November 22-28
event.

Li Jiangning, Director-General of Policy Research Department

of China International Intellectech (Shanghai) Corporation, spoke at the Chamber's
November 11 roundtable luncheon on labour issues encountered by foreign investors in
China.
The Invest in
Fujian -- Hong Kong Fair took
place in Hong Kong on November 11. Edmond Yew, Chamber China Committee member, represented
the Chamber at the Symposium on Fujian Investment Environment.
The "2004 Hong Kong Hainan Trading
and Investment Cooperation Symposium" took
place in Hong Kong from November 15-16. Dr Lily Chiang, Vice Chairman, HKGCC, was
invited to attend the opening ceremony as a VIP guest. Alan Wong, Chamber China Committee
Vice Chairman, attended the "Haikou Investment Promotion Symposium and Luncheon"
while Stanley Hui, past Chamber China Committee Chairman, attended a banquet hosted by
Hainan Government.
Arturas Zurauska, Ambassador of Lithuanian in Beijing, led a
Lithuanian business delegation to the Chamber on October 18 for a business exchange.
Michael Brosh, Director of International Trade and the mission
leader of Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce Trade mission to Hong Kong, and Joanne
Aldridge, Assistant Trade Commissioner
of the British Consulate General in Hong Kong, visited the Chamber on October 18 to
discuss issues pertaining to doing business in China.
Tor Christain Hildan, Ambassador of Norway to China, visited the Chamber
on October 21 to seek advice for a suitable candidate to be nominated as the Honorary
Consul of Norway.

Member of Parliament (Conservative),U.K., visited the Chamber on October 21 to learn about
the latest financial and economic developments in Hong Kong.
| Constitutional Development |
The Chamber General Committee
agreed on October 26 to commission an academic study on models for constitutional
development, with special reference to the role of the business sector. Chamber
CEO Dr Eden Woon and Senior Director for Business Policy Dr WK Chan have been in touch
with scholars from Hong Kong University to explore possible cooperation on this study.
Zhang Hengchun, Deputy Director-General of the Shenzhen High-Tech
Industrial Park (SHIP), spoke at the Chamber's October 27 roundtable luncheon on
Shenzhen/Hong Kong cooperation in the high-tech sector.
HKGCC Legislative Councillor Jeffrey Lam
met
with members of the Chamber's SME Committee on October 28 to discuss racial discrimination
legislation and government assistance for SME's, among other subjects.
HKCSI
Executive Committee met on October 18 and discussed a wide range of subjects including the
WTO Ministerial Conference and the way ahead for the Penta Forum. On the latter, the
committee approved a paper entitled "Not just an event, but an institution,"
which proposed that the Penta Forum be strengthened to become a key element of the
development of think-tank institutions. The
suggestion was submitted to the Financial Secretary and the Head of CPU on November 4.
Stanley Ko and members of the HKCSI and China Committee, on
November 8 received a delegation from the National Development and Reform Commission and
held discussions on the impact of CEPA on Hong Kong.
Guo Guoping ,
President, China Chainstore and Franchise Association, led a 30-member delegation to the
Chamber on November 12 to meet with members of the Chamber's Retail/Distribution
Committee.
