ABOUT THE SURVEY

• Second annual survey of Chamber members

• Involving 30 questions in seven sections

• Conducted between 12 October, 1999 and 12 November, 1999

• 509 completed questionnaires from the 4000 corporate members of the Chamber

• A response rate of 12.5 per cent.

SOME KEY FINDINGS

• A substantial turnaround in economic and business confidence since the 1998 survey

• Economic growth to accelerate in 2000 and 2001

• But deflation to continue into the New Year

• Investment and employment to improve in 2001

• Business still concerned about local costs, the SAR's competitiveness and the environment

• But positive about cross border relations
