Talent with International Management Experience a Competitive Edge of Hong Kong, Liu Yonghao Tells HKGCC

Liu Yonghao, Chairman of New Hope Group and Standing Committee member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, visited the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce today and exchanged ideas with Chamber CEO Dr Eden Woon on the common concern of talent flow between Mainland China and Hong Kong.

The purpose of Mr Lius current trip to Hong Kong is to recruit some senior managers for the New Hope Group. During his visit to the Chamber, Mr Liu said, "One of Hong Kongs critical advantages is the possession of a rich pool of managers familiar with international business practice. Hong Kong can cooperate with its hinterland in many areas and help Mainland enterprises adapt to the international requirements arisen from Chinas WTO entry."

Chamber CEO Dr Eden Woon said, "A freer flow of talent between China and Hong Kong will push economic integration of the two places further forward. In the face of economic challenges and high unemployment here, it is hoped that Hong Kong people can continue to enhance their skills and try to explore job opportunities in China. By working in the Mainland, they can gain a better understanding of the China market, which will in turn help them move up the value chain and have more room for career development. I am delighted that the New Hope Group, a leading private enterprise in China, recognizes that Hong Kong possesses a rich source of business talent. "

Mr Liu said, "With China now in the WTO, private enterprises in the Mainland see a promising future for business growth. To enable these enterprises to align with the global economy easier, we are looking for talent who can make contributions in achieving this end. It is the objective of my current trip to Hong Kong to recruit a vice president, a chief financial officer and several senior managers with international trade and investment experience for the group."

During his discussion with Mr Liu, Dr Woon also briefed Mr Liu on the "One Company One Job" campaign now underway. Since its launch, the local business community has shown an overwhelming support. Many of the positions offered require employees to work in the Mainland or travel frequently to China. The Chamber believes the trend of Hongkongers working in the Mainland is growing as a result of closer economic integration between the two places.
