The 14-member delegation, led by HKGCC
General Committee member Simon Lee, just returned to Hong Kong after a six-day business
and technology study mission to Israel.
Speaking after the visit, Mr Lee said, "We are very
impressed with the high-tech developments in Israel. It is a good model that Hong Kong can
learn a lot from."
The visit also saw closer business relationships established
between Hong Kong and Israel that pave the way for future cooperation.
During the visit, delegates exchanged views with senior Israeli
officials and Israeli Chamber's executives on a host of issues including promotion of
e-commerce on the business-to-business model, ways of strengthening business cooperation
between Hong Kong and Israel particularly in the IT and telecommunications fields, and
more importantly, Hong Kong's role as the springboard to the mainland.
"In spite of our short visit, we saw a lot in Israel and
benefited both in learning substantially about the old history of Israel, as well as about
the modern hi-tech industry. Several contacts were made for the pursuit of possible future
business."
Mr. Lee added.
The delegation visited a number of high-tech companies in Israel
including Netvisions, ECI Telecom and NDS Ltd and delegates were briefed on the latest
development of incubator programmes supported by the government and private sector. They
also met with high-level government officials in the Ministry of Industry & Trade in
Israel including Arie Lev-Rodrig, director for Asia & Pacific Division, and Zohar
Peri, deputy director general and director of Foreign Trade Administration. In order to
enhance bilateral business cooperation between Hong Kong and Israel, delegates also called
on Mr Dan Gillerman, President of the Federation of the Israeli Chambers of Commerce
during the visit.
