The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce

For Immediate Release

In the face of almost a year of social unrest and the current novel coronavirus pandemic, business operations are confronted with unprecedented challenges. The local business community has all along been hoping for a stable and peaceful business environment, and does not want to see the persistent protests.

Accordingly, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (the Chamber) understands the need of enactment of a law to safeguard the national security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as proposed in the third session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. The business community will closely monitor whether the national security law is effective in stopping violence and restoring order to society.

The Chamber hopes that the relevant authorities can clearly elucidate the legislative provisions and implementation details as soon as possible, so as to relieve worries about the uncertainty and impact on the confidence of Hong Kong’s business environment.
