Support Measures Offer Some Short-term Relief

For Immediate Release

The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) welcomes Financial Secretary Paul Chan’s fourth round of support measures to help small- and medium-sized enterprises weather the current ongoing protests and Sino-U.S. trade war.

The relief measures should help tide SMEs over for the short term, but business and clients won’t return unless normality is restored as soon as possible.

“In the Chamber’s Business Prospects Survey that we released last week, 63% of respondents said that healing societal divisions and restoring law and order would be the most useful measure to support their business,” said HKGCC Chairman Aron Harilela. “The longer the unrest is allowed to continue, the more damage is inflicted on society and the economy as we become entrapped in a downward spiral.”
