HKGCC Welcomes Signing of MOU between HKSAR and China Railway

For Immediate Release

The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) welcomes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the HKSAR Government and China Railway Corporation on Arrangements for Key Issues in Operational Preparations for Hong Kong section of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link.

The MOU will expand the interconnection between the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link and the Mainland high-speed rail network. This will allow Hong Kong passengers to seamlessly and comfortably connect to key cities in the Mainland, saving travelling time and money.

Of particular significance is the 13 pairs of long-haul trains, connecting with key cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Changsha and Xiamen, among others. Under the MOU, 127 pairs of trains will operate daily, including 114 pairs of short-haul trains, putting Futian, Shenzhen and Guangzhou railway stations within easy reach.

“Once operational, the services will bring significant time and cost savings for businesses in Hong Kong. At the same time, it opens up new options for Hong Kong people to spend an affordable weekend in fascinating cities like Kunming and Guilin. So it really opens new opportunities for business and pleasure once operational in the third quarter of this year,” said HKGCC Chairman Stephen Ng.
