What's On

***** This event will be conducted in Cantonese *****

Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, Research Chair Professor of Public Administration at The Education University of Hong Kong, since retiring from the post of Secretary for Transport and Housing, returned to the University to pursue academic research and recently published The Unavoidable Reality: Reviewing Housing Policies during my five-year Tenure and The Unavoidable Reality: Reviewing Transport Policies during my five-year Tenure in July 2018.

After retiring from the post as Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Cheung believes that it is necessary to summarize his experience, including the successes and failures, and the challenges and contradictions he faced, so that the public can better understand the complexity of formulating public policies in reality, and further understand the process of developing policies, the rational and irrational factors in politics, and the considerations in decision-making politics and administration.

Professor Cheung's idea that the new book is titled The Unavoidable Reality comes from the film An Inconvenience Truth. The two new books cover a number of controversial topics, including "affordable housing", "supply-led" housing strategies, lead in drinking water in public housing estates in 2015, high-speed rail projects, the third runway, taxi service reform and the challenges brought by Uber.

At this lunch sharing session, Professor Cheung will introduce the above two new books and share with members his five years of experience as Secretary for Transport and Housing. Sign up now to avoid disappointment!
