Hong Kong Financial Secretary, the Honourable Paul MP Chan, will deliver his 2017-2018 Budget Speech to the Legislative Council on 22 February. In a previous interview, the Financial Secretary said that he would allocate public resources in a flexible manner to launching government projects and public services that meet the needs of the community.
The Chamber submitted its proposals for the Government's forthcoming Budget in December 2016, advocating a simple two-tiered tax structure, and introducing super tax deductions for research and development expenditure, as well as other suggestions. It remains to be seen whether these suggestions will be incorporated in the Budget.
The Chamber is honoured to have Mr K C Kwok, former Government Economist (2004-2008) for the Hong Kong SAR Government, to share his insights about the Government Budget at a luncheon on 24 February. Mr Kwok is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the School of Economics & Finance, University of Hong Kong. He was also the Regional Chief Economist of Standard Chartered Bank for East Asia, and is now a member of the Competition Commission and the Chairman of its Enforcement Committee.
Mr Kwok will be joined by Ms Grace Tang, Chairman of the Taxation Committee, and Mr Peter Churchouse, Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee, who will also share their views and takeaways from the Budget.
